Driveway Hijacking:

  • Be prepared for the unexpected, as hijackers can strike at any time.
  • Exercise caution when entering or leaving your driveway.
  • Have an emergency plan in case of an attempted hijacking. Consider escape routes and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Avoid fixed patterns and change up your routine to avoid being targeted.
  • If you become suspicious, don’t get out of your car to investigate. Rather, drive to the nearest police station.
  • Keep your car doors locked and windows closed at all times.
  • Consider installing a remote-controlled gate if you don’t have one already.
  • Keep an eye on your surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the police.
  • If you become a victim of a carjacking, do not resist. Your life is more valuable than any possessions.
  • Be aware that hijackers may impersonate police or traffic officials.

Driveway Robberies:

  • Stay aware of your surroundings and take note of people and their clothing.
  • If confronted by a robber, put up your hands immediately and do not reach for your belongings.
  • Stay calm, listen to the robber, and obey their commands.
  • Do not look the robber in the eye.
  • Do not pretend to not have any valuables, as this may anger the robber.
  • Do not throw away your keys.
  • If forced out of your car, lie face down on the ground.

Prevent Smash And Grab Incidents:

  • Do not leave valuables visible in your car.
  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Keep bags and other valuables out of sight in the trunk or behind seats.
  • Be on the lookout for suspicious characters and report them to the police.
  • Slow down as you approach red traffic lights at night.
  • Be cautious of people standing at intersections.
  • Never open your vehicle window or door for a stranger.
  • Avoid getting out of your car to remove obstacles from the road.
  • Park in attended parking lots.
  • Always park in well-lit areas at night.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Remove radios and other electronic devices if possible.
  • Never leave children alone in a vehicle.
