If there is one thing we weren’t expecting in 2020, it’s the amount of sanitiser we would be using daily. Hygiene is an important part of safety against the Coronavirus and, as a result, the demand for sanitisers has grown tremendously. The global hand sanitisers market size is expected to have increased from $ 1.52 billion in 2019 to $ 3.04 billion in 2020.

The downside of alcohol and chlorine-based sanitisers is that they leave skin dry and damaged and need to be applied regularly in order to be effective. This isn’t ideal or user friendly. Broubart has partnered with a brand of anti-microbial surface and hand sanitisers that are less harsh on skin and last the entire day without losing their effectiveness; named ZOONO.

ZOONO is a long lasting, anti-microbial treatment that sanitisers and provides protection against a broad range of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses. The active ingredient is 3-Trimethoxy silyl propyl dimethyl octadecyl Ammonium Chloride, which works by forming a microscopic bed of molecular spikes that pierce the cell walls of various microbes, causing them to burst. This mechanical destruction of microbes is ideal because it removes the risk of microorganisms acquiring immunity and becoming resistant.

When ZOONO is sprayed onto a surface, it forms an invisible and durable antimicrobial film, which is bonded to the surface. The spikes caused by ZOONO retain their effectiveness after contact with microorganisms and are thus capable of repeated use. The active ingredient also resists being washed off, thanks to the silane proportion, and is not de-activated by bacteria. Just one application of ZOONO has shown to protect surfaces against microorganisms for up to 30 days without the need for reapplication and irrespective of how many times the surface is washed.

ZOONO has been tested and proven to be safe by the US Environmental Protection Agency, having a similar toxicity as vitamin C, and been approved by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority. It is odourless, non-corrosive, safe to use, non-leaching and environmentally stable. Given this information, ZOONO is an outstanding solution in many areas; travel, office environments, hospitality, security and so on.

The technology used in the production of ZOONO has also been adapted in the development of GermFree24, a hand-sanitising spray which cleans and protects against 99% of germs for up to 24 hours without reapplication. This is safe to use on hands, has a gentle moisturising ability and smells light and fresh.
